Salisbury Scottish Dance Group
Burns Night 1 February 2003

The Group held a highly successful Burns' Night at Bodenham Village Hall.

Guests were greeted at the door by our piper playing tunes from the Highlands and were offered welcoming glasses of mulled wine.

The traditional Burns' supper was heralded by the time-honoured processional entry of the haggis, accompanied by bagpipes, the Address and a toast drunk in whisky. After the haggis, neaps and tatties and a delicious assortment of puddings, the guests enjoyed further toasts to the Immortal Memory, the Lads and the Lassies.

Then followed excellent entertainment from our piper, Harry MacFadyen, who sang and played the guitar, delighting us with the opportunity to sing to the well-loved choruses.

The "Scunner's Kitchen" duo gave us the awesome rendition of Tam O'Shanter's perilous journey and ballads and folk songs with many choruses, both sad and jolly.

Finally it was time to dance. Geoff Palmer took us through old favourites like Mairi's Wedding. Non-Scottish dancers joined in with enthusiasm in some fast-paced European circle dances. The evening closed with Auld Lang Syne.

Thank you to all our guests and to all those whose efforts made the evening so memorable.

We hope to see you and your friends at Burns Night 2004.
